Hazards 32 Net Zero by 2050
Video Transcript

I will be presenting the above paper at the Hazards 32 conference, to be held in Harrogate, England in October. This video was included in the proposal for the paper. It has the following themes:

  • Process safety professionals possess many of the skills needed to implement a ‘Net Zero’ program.
  • Leadership will come from public companies, including the oil companies. They will provide that leadership because (a) they want to be commercially successful, and (b) they want to avoid their own ‘Kodak Moment’.
  • Process safety professionals can be effective at designing and implementing net zero programs because (a) they understand the importance of imagination — they can think the unthinkable, (b) they understand systems complexity, and (c) they recognize that the most important part of both process safety and net zero programs is participation.
